Replaced all 5 HV caps and it's been on and working great for more than a week straight now. Then 1 of the 5 HV caps started dying, had a weak/intermittent trace. Powered it up and it worked fine for about an hour. It had been sitting for many years unused before I got it. I’ve had only great audio reports from around the world. The NB works extremely well if you plan to use it mobile. It is small in size and perfect for mobile and portable use. New memory battery installed about two months ago. While we are on the subject a case in point is the scope/monitor. Kenwood TS-50s HF Radio It’s in great shape, works just as it should. It will be time consuming but well worth it in the end. At least not scratching really hard!Īfter a section is done I'll run it a few hours, days or weeks and then move on to the next one if all is good. My approach to replacing the rest will be section by section so if I make an error or have a new cap that's bad I won't be scratching my head trying to figure out where it is. Replacing at least the HV caps is a no brainer since they work the hardest. Values changed due to heat, electrical stress or leakage. These radios are now 30-35 years old and the caps are well beyond the original design life. Different size knobs so you can just go right to the one you want without even thinking about it.
